Top 10 Kid's Halloween Costumes for 2019

Updated: Oct 12, 2019

Yep, you guessed it. Christmas is almost here. However, we’re not there just yet, we’ll have to make it past the spookiest and most candy-filled time of the year first – Halloween.

The ghoulish holiday has gone global over the past few years, with kids from around the globe excited for a night out dressed as their favorite characters to go trick-or-treating.

As a father, finding the right Halloween costumes for kids can put a lot of pressure on you. Although certain costumes are classics, most kids these days won’t stand for something generic. But, on the other hand, you can’t exactly just give them what they want too, which leaves you with more limited options, especially if you’re not particularly savvy with the many trends that cropped up over the past ten months.

Lucky for the troubled dads out there, we’re here to help. Below, we’ve rounded up the top ten Halloween costumes for kids in 2019 that will have your child dominating the holiday.

1. Dinosaurs

Once again, dinosaurs are topping Halloween costume searches on Google this 2019, and with only a few weeks to go, it’s safe to say that we’re definitely going to be seeing a lot of miniature and candy-crazed dinosaurs come Halloween.

Then again, who can blame them? Dinosaurs have always been cool and these things are sick.

2. Paw Patrol Costumes

What child hasn’t watched or loves watching Paw Patrol?

Revolving around six rescue dogs who goes all around the world to solve problems and save the day, Paw Patrol is one of the most popular animated children’s cartoon series today, which is why it makes a lot of sense to try and see if your child would love to dress up as one of the show’s six main characters (seven if you include the tech-savvy Ryder).

Rubie’s Costume Co. is a reputable and well-reviewed Amazon seller that stocks a variety of Halloween costumes for kids, including that of the characters from Paw Patrol.

Be sure to check them out.

3. Disney’s Descendants Characters

Disney characters are iconic and timeless.

Where once you probably dressed up as a Disney character a couple of times for Halloween in the past, it is now your child’s turn to do so, and with the Disney Store well-stocked for the Halloween season, you’ll find that there’s no shortage of options, regardless of whether your child is a boy or a girl.

Because all the legends are in the store, your biggest problem now is probably knowing how and what to pick.

If we might suggest though, characters from Disney’s Descendants would make for an excellent choice.

With Descendants 3 having only been released this summer, rest assured that your kid would look trendy and good while out trick-or-treating with his or her friends come Halloween.

4. Doc McStuffins

First released way back in 2012, Doc McStuffins quickly found itself quite the sizable audience among toddlers and children alike.

Fast forward to 2019 and Doc McStuffins is still big.

Inspiring today’s generation to want to become doctors in the future, what better way do you think there is to help your little one cure the world with this costume.

Excellent for Halloween, and even better for creative play at home, the Doc McStuffins costume comes with a white doctor’s coat, as well as a purple and white striped top and a pink shirt. It also comes with various accessories as well. This includes a doctor bag, stethoscope, and even a floral headband, so your little one looks good as he or she cures the sick.

5. Spiderman

Who doesn’t love everybody’s favorite web-head?

Now the star of the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the character’s reinstatement with Disney and Sony finally having struck the deal, there’s arguably no superhero more popular among kids today than Spiderman.

With three highly successful movies, as well as more appearances within the widely praised MCU, every kid wants to be Spiderman.

So, who are you to stop your child from living his or her dreams?

Once again, when it comes to costume quality, Rubie’s delivers with Spiderman. The best part? Your little one and his or her friends can buy the costumes as a group and dress up as the entire Avengers cast, including Thor, Iron Man, the Hulk, and even Captain America.

It’s hard to get any super than that.

6. JoJo Siwa

If you don’t know who JoJo Siwa is, then you’ve probably been living under a rock for the past few months.

Easily one of the biggest and most surprising hits this 2019, the YouTube star and singer appeals quite well to the youngest audiences. Dressed in rainbow colors and wearing giant hair bows, expect a lot of kids to want to pull off the same JoJo Siwa look that they frequently see online or on TV.

7. Pennywise from It (2017)

The 2017 reboot of the classic horror film It, which was based on a novel of the same name that was released in 1986 by Stephen King, and its sequel, 2019’s It Chapter Two, is arguably the last movie you’ll ever associate with younger kids.

Still, that probably won’t stop parents, and even kids, from wanting to dress up as a more friendly” version of the film’s antagonist, Pennywise.

The best part about trying to dress up as this dastardly clown is that it can be worn by either genders. Not to mention, if your child belongs in a group, the others (or your child) could dress up as the other characters from the two films.

Now, isn’t that something?

8. Hooded Skeleton / Mommy Sweatshirt and Joggers

Whoever said that Halloween trick-or-treat costumes can only be worn only once a year?

A costume to die for, or so to speak, this sweatshirt comes in either black skeleton or white mummy. Either way, the two-piece ensemble is a must-have for kids who want something a bit more comfortable than your typical Halloween costume.

More than being a Halloween costume, this clothes set can come in handy all-year round. This especially true in the months ahead, where the winter season will make adults and kids alike wish that they had something warm and comfortable to wear.

9. Unicorns

When will everybody’s love for unicorns ever end? Probably never.

Unicorns have universal appeal. For adults, they’re majestic and awesome if mythical. But, for kids, they are everything, and then some. They’re not just majestic creatures, to children, Unicorns are magical; and because of their rather active or wild imagination, they very much pretend that Unicorns can be found in real life.

As much as we’d love to wish for that ourselves too, that likely won’t be happening.

Thankfully, your little ones can have the next best thing and go as a unicorn to trick-or-treat.

A fan-favorite, Unicorns also make for quite the affordable costume. All you need to do is just some colorful clothes, like a rainbow tutu, and a horn, and voila, your child will be as happy as a clam.

10. The Lion King

We grew up watching The Lion King, which is probably why it wasn’t quite easy for parents to convince their children to dress up as either Nala or Simba (or even Pumbaa or Timon) for Halloween. Until now.

Thanks to the widely successful release of The Lion King reboot earlier this year, the popularity of the franchise is off the roof once again. This means that we should expect a bunch of little lions to be roaming around the streets asking for candy come Halloween.

Important Safety Tips When Choosing Halloween Costumes For Kids

- Choose costumes made out of flame-resistant materials like polyester and nylon.

- Avoid costumes made out of a variety of materials and fabric. They’re more likely to catch flame easier and spread fire faster. Ideally, the costume should only be made out of one or two types of material.

- It’s cold out there, so don’t forget to layer clothes and make your child wear clothes UNDER the costume.

- Double-check any and all accessories and props to make sure that they are safe and do not pose any danger to kids and adults alike.

- When choosing a costume with a mask, make sure that your little one is still able to see clearly and breathe properly.

- For safety reasons, opt for bright and light-colored Halloween costumes for kids. If it can’t be helped, then at least attach reflective tape on your child’s costume. This makes it easier for you and other motorists to see your child on Halloween.

- Let your little ones wear comfortable shoes with good grip!

More than style, your child’s safety should be your #1 priority this Halloween season.

With these tips, and our costume suggestions, you can help make sure that your child is safe and looks stylish at the same time come the last day of October while out trick-or-treating!
